The battle for Helms deep is a good way to describe what out GI tract experiences every second of every day as its defences try to protect us from harm. Athletes especially endurance types are particularly susceptible to GI harm and immune challenge. We discuss basic GI physiology, mechanisms that increase risk, testing to determine risk/damage and basic stratergies to maintain GI immunity and therefore performance.

Regenerative Medicine: options for the treatment of degenerated discs

Degenerative disc disorders, especially the ones affecting younger patients, still pose a therapeutical dilemma but its presence conditions not only the patient''s professional activity but also life in general. Promising advances with patient''s own fat derived stem cells (ADMSCs), allows a minimally invasive procedure to arrest the degenerative cascade and therefore improve the functional aspect of the disc, life quality and can avoid unnecessary invasive treatments.
